When I was young, the thought of becoming a professional athlete was my biggest dream. I loved Baseball and football, so the dream was never considered to be fulfilled on two wheels. But here I am, at the age of 25, riding a bicycle up to 6 hours a day, with a deep passion for a grueling sport they call "cycling", and am now pursuing a carreer in personal training and strength and conditioning coaching for all types of athletes.
I was born in Alaska, but grew up here in Alabama, in a small town called Morris. I went to Mortimer Jordan and played football and baseball. I went on to play baseball for Wallace State, where I got my first road bike, and then went on to the University of North Alabama, where I finished with a Criminal Justice degree. It was there that I found the true meaning of being a Christian, and became a strong believer in providential circumstances. God works in mysterious ways and it blows my mind to think about how he is planning my life.
During the process of getting into the police academy, after coming home from college, I went on a few group rides here in Birmingham and was immediately hooked. I soon found myself working at Bob's Bikes in Homewood, where I found a close friend in Roger Byrd, the owner, who has been one of my biggest supporters and began racing for the shop.
My first real season was exciting, but ended abruptly with a terrible accident. After doing well in some races, and moving up to category 3, I entered a pro 1,2,3 race in Chattanooga Tennessee, and crashed head on into a civilian motorcycle on a fast descent. I broke some bones and had a few bumps and scratches but after a few months, I was back on the bike. I consider myself a very fortunate person and thanks to Gods and his angels, my brother Chris and his wife Christina, a very supportive cycling community, mainly the Tria Market Team guys, my mother and father, and everyone else who took care of me, I was able to return to the sport without any serious complications. My brother was actually my physical therapist and did all of my rehab.
I returned to racing after that winter and began my season as a skiddish cat 3, but after a few races, I got some fitness back, as well as my confidence and started getting some good results. I moved up to a category 2 about mid-season of this year, did some guest riding for the Warp Nine Cycling Team, where I got my First Pro 1,2 win, and soon signed on with United Health Care, one of the most popular pro-am teams in the Nation. I have just completed a full season with the Ion/United Health care team with some very good results. Im not sure what is to come of next season. I have always had a passion for teaching and helping people and am now coaching cyclist as well as other athletes. I am now in the process of obtaining a personal trainer certification and looking forward to working with local athletes.
I thank God for everything he has given me, and I do my best to put him first in everything I do. I try to lead by example and live a lifestyle that is pleasing to him, but if what you see from me is my only witness, then I have not done my duty as a Christian. So I would like to Give you a brief summary of what I believe.
We are all guilty of breaking God's commandments and deserving of some form a punishment, which God decided would be an eternity out of his sight and into hell. With God being fully just, meaning the punishment has to be paid, while still being fully merciful, meaning us, the deserving, don't have to pay it, he decided that sending his own son to suffer for our crime and die on a cross was the only answer. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice. Our sins were paid in full, but not by us, and all we have to do is confess and believe.
